Building a Foundation of Hope and a Beacon of Community Voice. A vibrant, modern building filled inside and out with empowering youth activity will offer the environment that youth need to thrive and profoundly shift the feeling of the neighborhood.
Our new building will create offices and meeting space for current and additional staff, and expand program space to accommodate youth events for up to 150 people. A music recording studio, meditation room, library, and conference room, as well as a balcony and outdoor space, will allow for more creative programming and community collaboration.
The new Rochester Teen Empowerment location will:

Send a powerful message that young people will internalize when the first new development in decades on Genesee Street is for them and by them.

Create a destination in which youth across Rochester unite to influence the policies and practices that affect them and their communities.

Raise TE’s profile as an integral asset for youth leadership and transformational change in our city.

Anchor our Southwest neighborhood site and serve as TE Rochester’s new main location by supporting our multi-site expansion, improving efficiency, and growing our administrative infrastructure and capacity.

Support an increase of young people employed, as well as the 3,000 youth who participate in TE’s youth-led initiatives to strengthen the community each year.
Change Starts with YOUth
Teen Empowerment’s Rochester site in the Southwest quadrant is a beacon of hope in a challenged neighborhood. Since 2004, TE has employed hundreds of Rochester youth as leaders, amplifying their voices, developing their skills, and positioning them as leaders and agents of change to uplift their community.
Now is the time to focus on the untapped power of youth to solve Rochester’s biggest challenges. Rochester TE is growing from one site to three with its latest site opening on the East side in 2020. This project will triple the number of youth employed in meaningful leadership roles in their own neighborhood and help create a tipping point of powerful change across our city. We will also build a new center on Genesee Street, which will serve as a hub for youth organizing initiatives citywide.
